UN Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women annual report 2020
On its 25th anniversary, the UN Trust Fund launches its annual report for 2020, which highlights the results of funded civil society and women’s rights organizations despite the challenges of COVID-19.
During 2020, COVID-19 and the measures adopted to contain the pandemic saw a dramatic rise in violence against women and girls (VAW/G), severely impacting the work of the UN Trust Fund and grantees. However, the COVID-19 pandemic also highlighted the vital role played by civil society and women’s rights organizations in preventing and addressing VAW/G as first responders in crises. Despite the challenges, UN Trust Fund grantees achieved significant results in 2020.
Overall, at least 242,569 women and girls directly benefited from support that led to transformative changes in their lives, including through services or changes in social norms, attitudes, and behaviours, through the work of UN Trust Fund-supported projects.
In total, UN Trust Fund grantees reached more than 31 million people, mostly women and girls, through initiatives such as awareness raising campaigns to prevent and end violence against women and girls.
Their work is especially important in meeting the needs of women and girls who experience intersecting forms of discrimination and who are at most risk of violence.
